SharePoint 2010 SP1 Install
I'm sure many people have already installed SP1, but I thouoght it would be a good idea to put the file locations and steps down in one place, if only for our staff and customers to be able to refer to. Bear in mind that these steps are for simple installations, typically with just a single web front end and a separate SQL Server.
As with any update, this should be tested prior to applying to a production system. These updates cannot be backed out, and they update not only the binaries on the disk, but also the structue and content of the content databases themselves.
In addition to installing SP1, Microsoft recommends that customers also install the June Cumulative Update at the same time. Being in Canada, most of our installations are of the English product with the French language pack. Here's the sequence of operations:
- Update Foundation first (SP1, French language pack, June 2011 CU)
- Then SharePoint Server (SP1, French language pack, June 2011 CU)
- You can then run the Configuration Wizard (PSConfig) one time on all boxes
Note: For the June CUs, you need to request the hotfix from Microsoft, and they will email you the link to the download.
